The Mildred Scheel Career Center (Mildred-Scheel-Nachwuchszentrum, MSNZ) Frankfurt is a joint institution of the Faculty of Medicine of the Goethe University, the Unimedizin Frankfurt, the University Cancer Center (UCT) Frankfurt-Marburg and the Frankfurt Cancer Institute (FCI) and is funded as one of five excellence programs in Germany by the German Cancer Aid. The Mildred Scheel Career Center (MSNZ) Frankfurt and the Department for General-, Visceral-, Transplant- and Thoracicsurgery, Universitätsmedizin Frankfurt (Prof. Armin Wiegering) are seeking a motivated Scientist, with high interest in translational cancer, to join the MSNZ and the team at the Department for General-, Visceral-, Transplant- and Thoracicsurgery, Universitätsmedizin Frankfurt (Prof. Armin Wiegering).

Project description

The Department for General, Visceral, Transplant and Thoracic Surgery aims to strengthen it´s research in the field of protein translation and how interference with this can enhance DNA damage response (DDR)-induced apoptosis in colorectal carcinoma (CRC) by pharmacological modulation of DNA transcription and DNA replication. The project includes in vitro studies, organoid models and preclinical mouse models. Numerous omics technologies and preclinical models are available to support the scientific work. Further support is provided by the technological platforms and staff scientists of the FCI, as well as the expertise of the UCT Biobank for patient samples and annotated data.

Who you are

  • University degree in life science or equivalent and PhD with outstanding scientific credentials
  • Strong expertise in translational cancer research obtained in national and – preferably - international research institutions
  • Research expertise in one of the topics relevant for the mission of the FCI, the UCT and the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK) strong interest in promoting your scientific qualifications and developing into an independent group leader
  • broad experience in the management of scientific projects
  • ample knowledge on protein translation
  • high level of motivation and communication skills
  • Due to legal regulations, valid proof of measles immunity / measles vaccination is required.
