The Mycobacterial Infection Research Unit (MIRU) within the Division of Infectious Diseases at University Hospital Frankfurt is searching for a motivated PhD student. The MIRU employs a wide range of methodological approaches to improve the management of mycobacterial diseases such as tuberculosis and non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) disease.

We are seeking a dedicated PhD candidate with a biomedical background to join the STRIDE-TB project. This project focuses on a systematic review and meta-analysis of sex- and gender-specific differences in the epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of tuberculosis (TB) and is funded by the BMBF (German Federal Ministry of Education and Research – Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung). The vacancy is currently limited to three years.

Your Role:

  • Conduct systematic literature review and meta-analyses on TB epidemiology and treatment with
    a focus on sex and gender specific differences
  • Critically evaluate existing clinical and epidemiological evidence
  • Extract Data and conduct statistical analysis
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary and international research teams
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication in
    peer-reviewed journals
  • Contribute to data synthesis, interpretation, and presentation at scientific conferences
  • Co-supervisorship of medical students

... your skills are what we're looking for

  • You have a medical and/or epidemiological background
  • You have a strong interest in infectious diseases, epidemiology, and public health
  • You possess excellent analytical and critical
    thinking skills
  • Experience in evidence synthesis, biostatistics,
    or systematic reviews is an asset
  • Ideally, you are proficient in a programming 
    languages used for data science (such as R,
    Python or similar)
  • Familiarity with meta-analysis tools
    (e.g., COVIDENCE) is desirable
  • Basic understanding of gender-based analysis in medicine is a plus
  • You are fluent in English (spoken and written)
  • Due to legal regulations, valid proof of measles immunity / measles vaccination is required
